What data migration is and how to run it
Short definition
Data migration is moving data (customers, products, invoices, history) from an old system to a new one during implementation. It includes export, cleaning, mapping and validation so the new system starts with correct data.
Data migration is one of the key stages of any new-system rollout. It moves data from the old tool (Excel, Subiekt, Salesforce, any ERP/CRM) into the new one - so nothing important is lost and the data is consistent and correct.
Good migration is not a plain import. It includes export, cleaning (deduplication, fixing tax IDs, unifying categories), field mapping between systems and validation on a data sample before the full transfer. Skipping cleaning means moving the old mess into the new system.
Migration should run with no downtime: the old system keeps working until the switch, and we show a sample of migrated data for verification. It is a standard part of every Open Mercato implementation we do.
Key facts about data migration
- It is not a plain import - it includes cleaning and validation.
- Without cleaning you move the old mess into the new system.
- A well-planned migration means zero downtime.
Frequently asked questions
Which systems do you migrate from?
From Excel, Subiekt, Salesforce, HubSpot and practically any ERP/CRM you can export data from. Migration is part of every implementation.
Does migration mean downtime?
No - the old system runs until the switch. We first validate a data sample, then do the full transfer and go-live.
